The title of this books means funeral songs. The author of this book probably was Jeremiah, grieving about the destruction of Jerusalem.
Jeremiah reflects here on the total destruction that has happened to Jerusalem and the temple. but he recognizes that all of this is the judgement of a rightous God.knowing that God is merciful he appeals for mercy in prayer to God.
